| A 19th century treacle-glazed barge ware teapot of the larger size. Bargeware, or "Measonware" features folksy applied birds, fruits and flowers in polychrome ceramic medallions, and this one includes a special presentation emblem: "WITH LOVE TO MOTHER." A pleasingly decorated appealing form. Bargeware gets its name from the barge owners who lived on barges throughout England using this distinctive pottery whose bottoms are especially bulbous, preventing them from tipping over while on a boat. The finial teapot of the lid has been restored with the spout and handle and there are some rim chips around the opening. 14" in height, the largest size we have seen. RL* | ||
