| Clock dials of all kinds are collected for their art work, often being thought of as a form of Folk Art. Sometimes they are hung in clusters of three or more, effective at creating a bold and engaging designing display as well as being original art. Considering these dials' unique characteristics, its no surprise that such a form of collecting has become very popular.Ask us about installing working clocks with these old dials so they can regain their original function. This dial is from an early 19th century English tall clock. The moon dial is complete with this, a rare find, considering that painted moon faces were often separated from their original dial bases. The dial is signed "Owston" of Scarborough. This is the clockmaker, Michael Owston who worked between 1823 and 1834. The moon dial is stamped "Owen - Birmingham" but no such stampings on the dial base. The ladies of lesuire depict the four seasons of the year. This is a well-painted dial in good condition, with defects of scattered paint losses that one would only expect from a well-kept piece of almost 200 years old. 12" square with a 17 1/2" height. | |||||
