Louis XVI Ormolu Clock Showing Henry IV

A late eighteenth or early 19th century fine and interesting ormolu mantel clock depicting Henry IV in a fabled setting with an innkeeper peering at him at night. The white porcelain dial is signed Chretien, a Parisian maker. This type of clock was particularly popular about 1810, especially with figures at various pursuits- sometimes suggesting a profession or trade. The ormolu surface is original and in excellent condition. 15 1/2" high, 11 3/4" wide. RL*
