| A black slate or marble and ormolu mounted mantel clock of American interest measuring 22" X 16 1/2" X 6". After our Revolution and until the mid 1800s the French exported clocks to this country. Some were adapted to American tastes with patriotic symbols. This clock was probably made between 1790 and 1810. It has the Federal eagle cast into the pendulum bob. Handsome clocks like this were found in the wealthiest households of the young United States' citizens. In excellent condition with striking on a bell every half hour. Measuring 22' X 161/2" X 6". | |||||||
