A wonderfully colorful reverse painted checker board, apparently an imitation of a mineral "Pietra Dora" piece, with a wood frame, 15 1/2" square. Pietra Dura, Italian for "hard stone" is the art of inlaying marble with other precious and semi-precious minerals and stones. Some contend this to have been Italian in origin. RL*
