Dame Walker (1861-1951) was born in Edinburgh, trained at The Putney School and Slade School, studied with Whistler. She was obviously influenced by her contemporary impressionists. She was knighted in 1943 and studied at the Westminster School under Fred Brown and James Whistler. Walker was known for her portraits of female sitters, her seascapes, and her floral paintings -- all in a style that owed much to Impressionism.
