This splendid Baktiari woven rug has reds and blues galore, and with its white border the eye is drawn inward to the busier designs. Its been enjoyed in our home for years, but now is for sale. The tribal weaving of the Baktiari tribes includes, among other things, superb rugs woven on wool foundations. Workshop rugs can be distinguished from the tribal pieces by the fact that they were woven on cotton foundations. One of the better appointed cases that dates as late as 1825, echoing the fiat of style from the earlier Chippendale era of American Mid Atlantic clock case making- between about 1770 and 1780. The case is solid black walnut. Note the carved blind frieze above the waist door and the panel on the base with ogee feet. An unusual walnut "end" or "work" table, measuring 28 1/2" X 17 1/2" X 24". This table has a total of eight drawer fronts- two on each side, while three are functional. The later replaced brass pulls are much like the originals. The smaller working drawers were fit with dividers, which are now all missing.
