Hand made oak safe box. An early either 17th or 18th century box with fittings for paper and stationery storage as well as a secret compartment. Although somewhat crudely or roughly made(the hasp was added later)the style etc assures us this is very early. 15" X 10" X7 1/2". Rather roughly made, and with nicely patinated wood box.

An American shelf clock labeled "Mitchell & Atkins" of Bristol, Ct., dating about 1830-1840. Has original wooden clockworks, but weights are lacking. The reverse painting, like most of this era, was scraped off except for the border, and now replaced by the glued-in print you see. An interesting case, with a carved gilt eagle crest, finials and paw feet. All-in-all a desirable case with original clockworks whose reverse painting needs restoration.
