A 19th century veneered and inlaid folk art box , 5 1/2" X 14" X 10"., whose plain interior retains most of the red paper lining. There are some repairs and replacement to some of the inlays, etc, but considering the age and expected wear, in pretty good overall condition.

SCHEDULED IN OUR NEXT AUCTION 

A nicely inlaid work box, 6" X 15" X 9", with the primary wood as walnut or mahogany and inlaid with a rosewood flower symbol central on top with defining line inlay. Inside survives the original workbook tray which is compartmentalized and lined with felt that lifts out to reveal the lower storage area. There is a vertical burn scar about 1" on the front side.

This painted with nine colorful birds perched on a flowering spring branch. The style very typical of the last half od the 1800s, or "Arts and Crafts" style. A satinwood and other wood page turner or "reader" that served as an aid to one reading the newspaper or any large portfolio, which would briskly turn pages while reading as well as serve to serve as a guide in keepin the place for reading.
